Examining Colorado football WR Xavier Weaver’s 2024 NFL draft stock

The Colorado Buffaloes had a talented group of wide receivers in their first season under head coach Deion Sanders. Still, the team must find a new leading receiver, as Xavier Weaver has declared for the 2024 NFL draft.

Weaver spent one year in Boulder after transferring from the University of South Florida. He made the most out of his opportunities at CU, establishing himself as a go-to receiver for quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

After announcing his NFL draft intentions in January, Weaver was recently invited to the NFL scouting combine, which begins Monday in Indianapolis.

Between his time at USF and CU, Weaver played in 49 games, grabbing 184 passes for 2,643 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also added five carries for 23 yards and three touchdowns. In 2023, Weaver set career-highs in catches (68) and receiving yards (908).

Weaver has also flashed some potential in the punt return game. He returned a punt 51 yards last season and recorded a 45-yarder while at USF.

Weaver is a fantastic route runner who’s able to run the entire tree and has enough in-line speed to get open at every level. When he gets a good burst off the line, Weaver can run past defenders and is an excellent deep threat. He tracks the ball in the air well and can make a play while gaining separation to gain yardage after the catch.
