Tennessee Titans named potential landing spot for 2 free-agent WRs

The Tennessee Titans need a lot of help on both sides of the ball as they look to start to rebuild their team in 2024, but wide receiver is certainly near the top of the list.

The signing of veteran wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins was a big one for the Titans in 2023. Not only did he show he had plenty left in the tank, he also proved to be a huge asset for rookie quarterback Will Levis.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t much else to be excited about beyond that.

Wideout Treylon Burks was expected to take a step forward in his second season and be the No. 2 but was ultimately a massive disappointment, as he had some injury issues and simply wasn’t productive when on the field.

If the Titans want to put Levis in a position to succeed in Year 2, they must beef up their receiving corps., something the team is expected to do both in free agency and the 2024 NFL draft.

The free-agent class at wide receiver isn’t great. Top options like Mike Evans and Michael Pittman aren’t expected to see the light of day on the open market, and Tee Higgins has already been franchise-tagged.

In an article suggesting potential landing spots for some of the top free-agent wide receivers in this year’s group, Pro Football Focus’ Brad Spielberger had two realistic options for the Titans.

Let’s see who they are and our thoughts on each.

What Spielberger said:

Tennessee has the contested catch savant in DeAndre Hopkins and sophomore Treylon Burks as another big body who can win deep or catch bubble screens and get upfield when healthy, but Brown brings an entirely different dynamic to a passing game that desperately needs help. Hopkins is entering a contract year, so Brown is the pricy veteran for 2025 and beyond as Tennessee continues to rebuild.

Spielberger rightly has Higgins, Pittman and Evans ranked ahead of Brown, but I would be surprised if Pittman or Evans actually reach free agency, and we already know Higgins won’t because of the franchise tag.

Brown is one of the next-best options out there beyond those three and would be a great complement to Hopkins, as he can stretch the field, something Levis will love after he routinely tried to throw deep balls last season.

Signing Brown wouldn’t make me as excited as bringing in any of the other three, but he’d be a decent consolation prize and a formidable No. 2 receiver.

With Hopkins, Brown, a drafted wideout and Burks, the Titans would be in much better shape…
