We’re now almost four years removed from the COVID-impacted 2020 college football season, but we’re still seeing the downstream effects.
The sport has been littered by players in their fifth and sixth years (or more) thanks to additional eligibility granted due to the pandemic. This will be the last season that features such players, and with that in mind, 247Sports recently broke down the top “super-seniors” in college football entering the 2024 season.
CJ Daniels, a receiver transfer from Liberty who is LSU’s most hyped offseason portal addition, cracked the list. Here’s what Carter Bahns of 247Sports said about Daniels in the piece.
Racking up 1,067 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns in a season would be a great accomplishment under any circumstances, but to do so in a triple-option offense is a remarkable feat. That is precisely what former two-star recruit CJ Daniels achieved last year at Liberty as one of college football’s premier big-play receivers. The explosive pass-catcher transferred to LSU this offseason, and now as Garrett Nussmeier’s likely go-to option in the same system that turned Malik Nabers into a Biletnikoff Award candidate, he should become a household name early in the 2024 season.
With LSU having to replace both Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr. this offseason, Daniels could be poised to immediately become the top target for new starting quarterback Garrett Nussmeier.
