The past few years for the Oregon Ducks in the Pac-12 Conference have been fraught with elite quarterback play. From Bo Nix to Caleb Williams, to Michael Penix, to Cameron Rising, almost each and every week, the Ducks could expect to go up an above-average passer on the gridiron.
That may be changing as Oregon prepares to head to the Big Ten Conference.
While there are some really solid QBs in the new league, the level of QB play won’t hold a candle to what the Pac-12 has delivered over the past several years, with multiple Heisman winners and top NFL draft picks.
To help preview what Duck fans can expect at the QB position going into 2024, we ranked the best passers in the Big Ten this offseason. Of course, not every team has officially named a starting quarterback just yet, so we had to do some assuming for a few teams. However, with the guys who we expect to be the Day 1 starter, we were able to rank them based on past production, experience, and perceived production going forward. We also incorporated Pro Football Focus grades for those with a minimum of 100 passing attempts in their career.
Here’s what we came up with:
18
Brendan Sullivan — Northwestern Wildcats
Career Production: 133-for-195, 1,303 yards, 10 TD, 5 INT
2023 Production: 63-for-99, 714 yards, 6 TD, 2 INT
2023 PFF Offensive Grade: 56.3
Analysis: Brendan Sullivan didn’t get a whole season to work with last year, splitting time with Ben Bryant, but he was mediocre when on the field, not doing a ton with the opportunity. It looks like Northwestern will turn to him as the starter this year, in which case I think they have an uphill battle in the conference.
