Brian Hoyer suggests Patriots draft Marvin Harrison Jr. at No. 3

Former New England Patriots quarterback Brian Hoyer believes the Patriots should keep Mac Jones and draft a playmaker with the third overall selection in the 2024 NFL draft.

Hoyer got to see Jones first-hand as a teammate in 2021 and 2022. He was there when Jones broke out as a rookie Pro Bowler. The Alabama product threw for 3,801 yards, 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in his first NFL season. However, things went downhill quickly after that year.

Jones struggled with Matt Patricia as the offensive coordinator in 2022, and those same inconsistencies lingered in 2023, even after the team tried to right the ship by signing Bill O’Brien as offensive coordinator.

All in all, it has not been an easy tenure for Jones as a member of the Patriots organization. Hoyer appeared on ‘Good Morning Football’ on Tuesday and expressed his belief that Jones was dealt a difficult hand to begin his Patriots career.

“I’m going to stick up for my guy, Mac. I know he’s got a raw deal the past few years,” said Hoyer. “With that third pick, they have an option. What do you want to do? You’re in line for one of the top-three guys, but also, being a quarterback guy myself, I’m looking at a guy like Marvin Harrison Jr. I know what Mac is capable of. I witnessed it his rookie year, and I don’t know if there’s been a receiver that’s come out in recent times who’s more prepared.

“Obviously, he has the DNA, and he’s gone out here and proven it. I don’t watch a ton of college football, but when I watch and see Ohio State and the things that he does, I mean, it seems to be like a bigger, faster version of his dad, which you take that any day.”

Drafting Marvin Harrison Jr. would certainly give Jones the best receiver he’s had as a quarterback in New England. Harrison is the top receiver in this year’s draft, and he has a chance of developing into one of the best receivers in the league.

For Jones, this would be a chance to reset his NFL career with the first real elite offensive receiving weapon he’s had since playing at the University of Alabama.
