Stephen Jones speaks, Negotiations underway?

The annual scouting combine is ready to showcase the latest round of hopefuls jockeying for position in the upcoming NFL draft. Front office personnel, scouts, and even coaches get to mingle while trying to keep their team’s hand covered from prying eyes.

It also gives agents a chance to talk about not only the new players they are representing and veterans looking for extensions, but also free agents ready to hit the open market.

Before those latter talks can legally take place, teams have the ability to speak to their own crop of guys. Cowboys Vice President and COO Stephen Jones spoke to the media about extending players such as quarterback Dak Prescott, wideout CeeDee Lamb, and edge rusher Micah Parsons.

Jones also spoke about the possibility of moving All Pro guard Tyler Smith to tackle and compared him to a Cowboys Hall of Fame lineman. Before Smith makes the move, a resolution with a future Hall of Famer must be had.

In other news, Dallas may be in the market for an off-ball linebacker. Evaluating trade possibilities at key positions of need are explained in detail. So is the 90-man roster which could be starting to take shape with combine talks so readily available. From injury decisions to faith in the lineman on the roster, this edition of Cowboys News and Notes is jam-packed.
