What a loaded class of safeties for the Cleveland Browns to take a look at when 2024 NFL free agency opens up.
With the recent releases of several talented players, free agency is loaded with good players at safety. The Browns extended young stud safety Grant Delpit but with the contract of veteran chess piece Rodney McLeod expiring they could be looking for a third safety. With Juan Thornhill under contract, the team has a deep center fielder but finding someone who can play in the slot and in the box to allow Delpit to move around is a must.
The first name that stands out to me is the recently released Justin Simmons of the Denver Broncos. Simmons plays most of his snaps as a deep safety but has played a ton in the box and some time in the slot. A player of Simmons’s versatility is exactly what the Browns covet though he might have a higher price tag than some of the other options.
Another interesting option would be to bring back a former player in Jordan Poyer who was also recently released by his current team the Buffalo Bills. Poyer played more snaps in the box than anywhere else and though he is an older player he would fit in well in Cleveland and bring a ton of experience to the back end of the defense.
Here are all of the options the Cleveland Browns will have for the safety position when free agency opens next week.
