Spring Football WR room preview

Spring football is upon us; the 2024 college football season is just five months away. This month’s tune-up will glimpse what’s to come for Texas A&M and new head coach Mike Elko. While it may still feel like Jimbo Fisher will pop out of nowhere, I can assure you that the new regime has been hard at work, assembling what looks to be a borderline elite roster on both sides of the ball.

While we’ve done our best to cover every position group before spring practices are in full swing, Texas A&M’s wide receiver rotation deserves a closer look. This group is equally intriguing to the quarterback depth chart primarily due to the new faces on the roster through the transfer portal, the 2024 recruiting class. With new Aggies OC Collin Klein looking to make his mark this spring, this is a position group I expect to take a huge leap.

On paper, seniors Moose Muhammad III and Jahdae Walker are the presumed leaders paired with incoming junior Noah Thomas, as veteran Ainias Smith has entered the 2024 NFL Draft, combined with Evan Stewart’s transfer to Oregon back in January. Through the portal, Elko acquired multiple receivers, including Jabre Walker and Cyrus Allen, who look to contribute in a big way next season.

Here is the projected wide receiver depth chart ahead of Texas A&M’s spring football practices.

After transferring to Texas A&M from Grand Valley State just a short year ago, wide receiver Jahdae Walker made his name known during SEC play last season. He became a favorite target of every quarterback who started for the Aggies in 2023. Ending the year with 35 receptions, 590 yards two touchdowns, Walker has proven his worth, and could become returning QB Conner Weigman’s No. 1 target in 2024.
