The Washington Commanders enter Monday’s legal tampering period with over 70 players on the current roster. However, on Wednesday, over 20 of those players will be unrestricted free agents and free to sign with other teams. Players can begin negotiating with other teams on Monday at noon ET but cannot sign contracts until the new league year opens on Wednesday.
Washington will open free agency with over $91 million in total salary cap space and around $80 million in effective salary cap space, per Over the Cap. Don’t expect general manager Adam Peters to shop at the top of the market. Peters will build the Commanders through the NFL draft. However, with so many holes to fill, Washington will be active. How active will the Commanders be this week? You can expect multiple new additions to the roster, but those additions will likely have ties to Washington’s new coaching staff, like tight end Zach Ertz, who was signed last week.
