The Washington Commanders have been active in free agency thus far, mostly targeting former Dallas Cowboys who played under head coach Dan Quinn. However, on Tuesday, they added to their secondary by agreeing to a one-year deal with safety Jeremy Chinn, according to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report.
Chinn is a former second-round pick of the Panthers, going 64th overall in 2020. He played 54 games and made 50 starts in four seasons, recording 324 total tackles and two interceptions. He also recovered three fumbles and had 12 quarterback hits, showing the ability to rush the passer, as well as covering downfield and stopping the run.
Given his size (6-foot-3, 220 pounds), he’s more of a box safety than a traditional deep defender.
