The Justin Simmons era in Denver has officially come to a close.
In addition to trading Jerry Jeudy to the Cleveland Browns and releasing quarterback Russell Wilson, the Broncos also released beloved safety Justin Simmons.
Simmons was drafted by the Broncos in the 2016 NFL draft and stockpiled four Pro Bowl nods and two All-Pros, his most recent from the former and latter from this past season. Denver saved $14.5 million after cutting Simmons as the team looks to rebuild under coach Sean Payton ahead of the 2024 NFL season.
When Payton arrived last year, the Broncos had expectations to contend again for the Super Bowl title. As a Super Bowl champion, he understands that making hard decisions is a part of the game. Nevertheless, Simmons’s spot within Broncos Country will forever be there. Here are some highlights of Simmons executing his best plays as a Bronco:
“I want to make every second count.”

And, of course, highlights of Simmons’ five interceptions against Patrick Mahomes, more than any other player in the NFL:

Simmons will now get a fresh start as a free agent. The Broncos, meanwhile, have signed safety Brandon Jones to help replace Simmons in Denver.
