Former Jets DT Quinton Jefferson joining Browns on 1-year deal

Quinton Jefferson (hip) questionable to return

With the Jets signing Javon Kinlaw to a higher contract than some may have expected along with Leki Fotu, it became unlikely Quinton Jefferson was going to return to New York in 2024.

That was confirmed Thursday morning. Jefferson will sign a one-year deal to join the Cleveland Browns, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.

Jefferson became a good bargain find for the Jets in 2023. He signed for $3.6 million last season but gave the Jets more value as he produced six sacks for the team, which ranked third behind only Bryce Huff (10) and Jermaine Johnson (7.5). The Jets signed Kinlaw for almost $8 million while guaranteeing almost $7 million of that amount.

This now means the Jets have lost two of their top three sack leaders from 2023 and potentially three of their top five if they do not bring back Solomon Thomas, who was 5th on the team with five sacks — Quinnen Williams had 5.5 sacks.
