Kansas City Chiefs re-sign former Georgia Bulldogs DL

The two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs have re-signed former Georgia Bulldogs defensive lineman Malik Herring. Herring played in 11 total games for Kansas City as the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers Super Bowl 58.

Herring recorded four tackles for Kansas City in the 2024 NFL postseason. The former Georgia Bulldog, who was undrafted in the 2021 NFL draft, has carved out a nice role for the Chiefs.

Herring was one of five exclusive rights free agents that Kansas City tendered as the new league year began. During the 2023 NFL regular season, Herring contributed 10 tackles and 1.5 sacks across seven games for Kansas City. He played in 36% of snaps in the seven games that he was active.

“Herring has floated between being active and inactive on gameday but has played well when given time on the field, significantly raising his value on Joe Cullen’s defensive line. Herring secured four tackles in the postseason on the way to Super Bowl LVIII, showing Steve Spagnuolo’s trust in him during pressure situations,” said Chiefs Wire regarding Malik Herring’s return.

Herring will look to expand his role with Kansas City this fall. It is nice to see Herring succeeding in the NFL after he tore his ACL at the 2021 Senior Bowl, which hurt his draft stock.

Herring joins former Bulldogs D’Andre Swift, Charlie Woerner, Isaiah McKenzie and Leonard Floyd in finding NFL homes via free agency.
