Penn State is hoping they have gotten to the point as a program where they can start recruiting nationally like some of the other elite schools around the country.
With the expanded Power-4 conferences, having a stronghold on landing elite talent across the nation will be even more important for staying at the top of college football than in years past.
They have their sights set on four-star edge rusher from Kansas, Jayden Woods.
The 6’3″ 228-pounder is seen a perennial four-star talent by all four major recruiting services and comes in as the 197th overall player in the class of 2025 and No. 23 edge rusher according to On3’s Industry Rankings.
Woods was recently on campus for a midweek visit, marking the first time that he was able to make it to Happy Valley despite receiving a scholarship offer just under a year ago.
Penn State got some good news coming out of that visit.
He told Ryan Snyder of On3 that he could picture himself becoming a Nittany Lion after having a great visit where he connected with the coaching staff and communicated with the current players at spring practice (subscription required).
James Franklin also has a connection to Woods and his family as he actually recruited Woods’ father to Kansas State back when Franklin was the offensive coordinator, playing one season under him.
Because of the legacy connecting to Kansas State, they are seen as the favorites to land him, but Woods still has 13 schools on his list with the Penn State being one of them.
The four-star has four official visits locked in, but the Nittany Lions are currently one of them.
They are hoping to get him back on campus sometime during the summer in an official capacity, and it seems like that could be very likely based on the comments from Woods coming out of his visit this week.
