Penn State makes top-five of coveted tight end recruit

Penn State still in the mix for top five tight end

Despite Penn State having a loaded tight end room, they are not going to stop recruiting that position.

Once known as “Linebacker U,” they might be developing a new nickname after all the tight ends they have put into the National Football League after developing them during their time in the program.

That has resonated with many recruits around the country as the Nittany Lions have been able to start landing national prospects.

They have their eye on another out of state tight end in Nate Roberts.

The 6’4″ 220-pounder is an Oklahoma native who has racked up just under 40 scholarship offers throughout his recruitment process.

Penn State got some good news when Roberts announced his top five schools and the Nittany Lions made the list.

The four other schools were Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon and Ole Miss.

As expected, the school he has visited the most is Oklahoma, but they aren’t the leaders to land him according to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine.

Ohio State is the overwhelming favorites to earn a commitment from Roberts with a 77.7% chance. Oklahoma is second at 17.0%, followed by Penn State at third with a 1.1% chance.

That doesn’t mean the Nittany Lions don’t have a chance, though.

“The visits will be important because I what I really will rely on when it comes time to commit is how I feel when I am there. My gut will be very important. The relationships and if I see myself fitting in there for four years are important too, but the feeling I have on campus will be so important,” he told Chad Simmons of On3.

Penn State will get an official visit from May 31-June 2, marking the third time that he’s taken a trip to Happy Valley.
