NFL reporters and Chicago-based reporters descended on USC football’s pro day on Wednesday. NFL teams other than the Chicago Bears were also in attendance, but the Bears certainly took center stage as the owners of the No. 1 pick and as a team which just traded away Justin Fields. The expectation is that the Bears will take Caleb Williams at the start of the 2024 NFL draft in late April, and that expectation is not tenuous or hotly debated. Not right now. Not after Fields got traded, which reduced a lot of the uncertainty in the NFL community. There are hot rumors about other NFL teams wanting to trade up into the top three for a quarterback, but the Bears have shown no real inclinations to give up their pick. The trade-up scenarios might involve the Washington Commanders at No. 2 and especially the New England Patriots at No. 3. The Bears seem set, and that’s why Chicago media flocked to Los Angeles for this pro day showcase.
