The Washington Commanders have been busy since free agency opened last week, signing 20 players, including four.
Despite all that activity, Washington, which entered free agency with the most salary cap space in the NFL, still has around $49 million remaining, including over $38 million in effective cap space, per Over the Cap.
Washington GM Adam Peters has focused on plugging holes and fielding a competitive 2024 roster while keeping his options open for 2025 and beyond. The Commanders targeted several players in their mid-to-late 20s and also focused on veterans on short-term deals, like linebacker Bobby Wagner and tight end Zach Ertz, who can still play but also serve as team leaders.
Why does Washington still have so much cap room after signing so many players? Let’s take a look at the cap hits for every Commanders’ signing or re-signing.
There are no updated contract numbers for Cornelius Lucas, Michael Davis, Jamison Crowder, or Noah Igbinoghene. Lucas reportedly re-signed for one year and up to $4 million.
