HC Mike Elko speaks ahead of A&M’s spring season

Texas A&M Football is back! Kind of, as spring practices are set to begin this week and continue until late April, culminating with the annual Maroon & White spring game on Saturday, April 20. On Thursday, head coach Mike Elko took the podium to provide some clarity regarding how the roster will look this spring, including what to expect structurally.

This offseason, Elko and his staff had done their job and more, acquiring 22 players from the transfer portal while closing out the Aggies’ impressive 2024 recruiting class, landing multiple four-star prospects during the early signing day period. While the excitement surrounding Elko’s arrival is somewhat premature ahead of his inaugural season, every time he has the media since his arrival, it seems on the surface that A&M has found their leader for years to come.

Overall, the roster will look different on both sides of the ball in 2024. Still, with quarterback Conner Wiegman set to return after missing the final eight games of the 2023 season, A&M is destined to vastly improve on offense, while the defense should be the best it’s been since Elko served as the program’s defensive coordinator from 2018-2021.
