Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian met with the media on Tuesday following spring practice.
The fourth-year head coach touched on a variety of different topics following a brief Easter break. One statement caught the attention of many when Sarkisian was discussing the freshmen on campus and how they were performing. Five-star wide receiver Ryan Wingo earned a specific mention from Sarkisian.
“I feel like the last week, he’s really starting to make some plays and you’re starting to see the size, speed, and athleticism.”
Texas’ new defensive line coach Kenny Baker was also brought up by the media and Sarkisian believes the players have responded well to his coaching.
“We’ve got to coach them all. We’re trying to develop all of our players and I think Kenny is really bought into that. I think all the guys in that room understand that and are working to get better.”
Another interesting comment from Sarkisian regarding the roster and depth chart was in regards to running back Tre Wisner. Sarkisian feels “it’s fair” to assume that Wisner could fill a role similar to Keilan Robinson last season.
The Longhorns will hold another practice on Thursday before the team holds a “practice/scrimmage” on Saturday. Sarkisian seemingly continues to feel pleased with the effort and intensity from his players during spring practices thus far.
