The Denver Broncos have the richest ownership group in the NFL, by a wide margin.
A group led by Walmart heir Rob Walton purchased the Broncos for $4.65 billion in 2022. That group included Rob’s daughter, Carrie, and his son-in-law, Greg Penner. Last fall, Penner became the team’s controlling owner when Rob transferred part of his ownership stake to his grandchildren.
The majority of the ownership group’s wealth came from Rob, as has been confirmed by the latest Forbes rankings of the richest people in the world.
Forbes estimates that Rob Walton and his immediate family are worth $77.4 billion, which ranks 19th on the Forbes list.
Jim Walton, Rob’s brother, is ranked 18th with $78.4 billion. Rob’s sister, Alice, is ranked 21st at $72.3 billion. His nephew, Lukas, is 60th with $28 billion. Two of Rob’s cousins — Nancy (No. 221; $10.1 billion) and Ann (No. 224; $10 billion) also made the list. That Walmart money is no joke.
There is a huge gap between Rob Walton and the next-richest owners in the NFL. The closest to Walton is Stan Kroenke, who, coincidentally, also married into the Walton family. Kroenke is married to Ann, Rob’s cousin.
Kroenke is ranked 116th with $16.2 billion. Jerry Jones (137) is next with $13.8 billion, followed by Shahid Khan (162; $12.2 billion) and Robert Kraft (188; $11.1 billion).
French businessman Bernard Arnault is ranked No. 1 overall with an estimated net worth of $233 billion, followed by Elon Musk ($195 billion), Jeff Bezos ($194 billion) and Mark Zuckerberg ($177 billion).
