The Washington Commanders kicked off a new era in January by hiring Adam Peters as general manager. Peters then hired Dan Quinn as head coach, who assembled a top-notch coaching staff.
In March, it was all about free agency, as Washington signed over 20 players from outside of the organization and brought back only a few of its own free agents. For Peters, it was about being competitive in 2024, but the focus remains on the future.
The future begins on April 25, when the Commanders are on the clock at No. 2 overall in the 2024 NFL draft. Washington is expected to take a quarterback and have the rare opportunity to begin with a new GM, coach and quarterback. Getting the quarterback position right is imperative for the Commanders, but they also have eight other selections in the draft, including six in the top 100.
With needs on both sides of the ball, there are plenty of ways Washington can go with its picks. In this latest five-round mock draft from Chad Reuter of NFL.com, he addresses multiple positions. We break down those selections below.

What Reuter said: During Daniels’ pro day, it was obvious he had been working on his pocket-movement skills. He’ll be very effective in Kliff Kingsbury’s offense if he’s able to add improved footwork to his whip of an arm and elusive running skills.
Breakdown: Daniels is the pick here and looks to be a perfect fit for Kingsbury’s offense. Some believe he is more ready to play immediately than Drake Maye. With the Commanders making roster upgrades throughout free agency, a strong draft could make Washington a surprise playoff team if Daniels continues his ascent. He has continued to improve in each of his five college seasons.
