The Arkansas wide receiving corps had massive questions at this point last year. The Razorbacks were set to bring in a pair of former Division II players in Andrew Armstrong and Isaac TeSlaa. Both of them panned out in the sense they became Arkansas’ No. 1 and No. 2 receivers.
In Armstrong’s case, his numbers were good – 56 catches for 764 yards and five touchdowns. In TeSlaa’s, even though he was second in most receiving categories for Arkansas, a tinge of disappointment reigned over his season (34 catches for 354 yards and two touchdowns).
This spring during Arkansas football camp, TeSlaa has shown his hands are as soft as ever, hauling in pass after pass in drills. The question is whether his ability to get open against high-quality coverage has improved. Jury is still out.
Isaiah Sategna has teamed with Armstrong to be the top two targeted wide receivers for new Arkansas quarterback Taylen Green this spring. New offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino has sped things up on offense in the spring, much to the FHS grad’s preference.
“You know, I feel like speed is a big thing in this offense, and that’s one of my strong suits,” Sategna said. “This is my fourth OC since I’ve been to Arkansas, so I’m really liking what Bobby has, and man, he’s living up to the hype.”
TeSlaa will be in the mix when the regular season starts, barring injury. But considering every one of Arkansas’ wide receivers are back, the 6-foot-4 wideout must continue to grow, especially as Armstrong, Jaedon Wilson and Tyrone Broden have been out in parts recently.
You can catch the new-look Razorbacks on Saturday at noon at the spring game inside Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium.
