Jameis Winston, the new backup quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, chose his number yesterday. He decided to go back to his college number, sporting No. 5 in 2024 while with the Browns.
And now, the former Heisman Trophy winner and first overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft has given his first look in the brown and orange, sharing a jersey swap image on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Posting the image, Winston put in the caption, “Let’s work!”
There will be no competition for the backup quarterback role this year like there was a year ago between Joshua Dobbs and Dorian Thompson-Robinson. There will be no quarterback controversy this year or turmoil involving five different quarterbacks as the Browns went out and got the best one on the market in Winston.
Hopefully Winston does not have to see the field for the Browns in 2024, but having the security of a big arm with plenty of starting experience in their back pocket is a strong place for the team to be.
