Arkansas running back Dominique Johnson ready for final shot

Only two players have been on the Arkansas football roster longer than Dominique Johnson. The Razorbacks running back is considered the big brother of the position room.

At least it’s better than being uncle Domo.

Johnson is back for a fifth season at Arkansas during an era in which he could have easily left and found a place to get himself more carries. After all, Johnson was less than 100 yards off the team lead in yards rushing for backs in 2021 and no one on the Razorbacks roster had more than his seven touchdowns.

Knee injuries stalled him after that, though. He had just eight carries in 2022 and 31 last year. That doesn’t mean he won’t make a difference in 2024, however. Arkansas has, in the Sam Pittman era, gone deep into its depth chart at the position, even when players are healthy.

Utah transfer Ja’Quinden Jackson and holdover Rashod Dubinion figure to be the top two in stable. Isaiah Augustave’s strong freshman season last year should help him have a leg up on No. 3 spot. Still, none of them have done what Johnson has in a Razorbacks uniform.

Dubinion acknowledged as much about the man who is only bested by defensive back Hudson Clark and defensive lineman Eric Gregory on the tenure timeline.

“It’s great having him around,” Dubinion said. “I looked up to him like he was my big brother when I first got here. “Domo, he’s just Domo, man. He’s going to come in here and he’s going to be himself every day.”
