Oregon Ducks QB Dante Moore looking forward to Will Stein development

Dante Moore was one of the best quarterbacks in the class of 2023 out of Detroit, and he was all set to become an Oregon Duck.

But Oregon’s then offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham took the vacant head coaching job at Arizona State and everything changed, at least for a little while. Instead of following Dillingham at ASU or staying home to play at Michigan or Michigan State, Moore decided to go to UCLA with Chip Kelly.

Meanwhile, back in Oregon, Will Stein was hired to replace Dillingham. While Stein attempted to get Moore to stick with the Ducks upon his hiring, it wasn’t the right time, says the sophomore gun-slinger.

After an up-and-down freshman season, things changed. Moore decided that a change of scenery was needed. The call went to Dan Lanning, and although Dillingham was no longer around, Moore has seemingly built a quick relationship with Stein.

“He gave me the vibe of being relaxed, real smart,” Moore said on Thursday. “He’s a real family-like person. He has a kid, Joey his son. I’m gonna say he’s a family-type dad.”

That personability has certainly helped Moore get comfortable in Eugene. While he is competing with Dillon Gabriel for the starting job and is currently projected to be the backup, it is his development and future potential that is the most important. Stein’s ability to help him reach that potential was a major factor in his choosing the Ducks.

“He’ll take care of the quarterback room,” Moore said. “He’s a really smart guy, how he calls plays. He just understands how to develop a quarterback. He’s played the position, just understanding certain routes, certain plays, and how to do things.”
