All is quiet on the college football conference realignment front. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t ideas on the table.
The most recent centerpiece for discussion is the newly-proposed ‘Super League.’ It is an attempt at a model that would see the major college football programs break away from the NCAA, form a new sporting entity, share television revenue with the athletes and, in essence, create a professional minor league for the NFL.

The proposal is brought by a group called ‘College Sports Tomorrow.’ It is a collection of sports owners, executives and college administrators from across the country, including New Jersey Devils/Philadelphia 76ers owner David Blitzer, NFL executive Brian Rolapp, Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam and Syracuse chancellor Kent Syverud.
The Athletic first reported the existence of the group on April 4. It appears the ‘Super League’ proposal was already dead by then, sending all interested parties back to the drawing board.
The idea is back in the news, however, as the slide deck for the proposed league was leaked to the media earlier this week. It includes its new structure for the sport: regional conferences. You know, how college football used to look before billionaire executives wanted to sign larger television contracts.
