The college football spring transfer portal officially opened this week. It’s been a lot busier than last year’s spring portal with tons of players already submitting their paperwork to enter.
The Oklahoma Sooners know they are going to lose some guys as well. We know that strictly from a numbers standpoint as they are over the scholarship limit. One of the guys to enter the portal is redshirt senior linebacker Shane Whitter.
Thank you sooner nation! With gratitude, I am entering the transfer portal. pic.twitter.com/KGPGAw0Ux7

Whitter was a part of the 2020 class and was a top 180 player and four-star. Since arriving in Norman, he’s never made much of an impact. A big reason for that has been injuries. 2021 was the season he played the most and had the most production. He had 27 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss.
Whitter is a very athletic linebacker and could play a role for a number of teams in his final two seasons of eligibility. He just was part of a linebacker room with a lot of depth.
Guys like Danny Stutsman, Jaren Kanak, Kip Lewis, Kobie McKinzie, Lewis Carter and even Dasan McCullough have been getting reps at linebacker. It’s just a loaded room that was going to be hard for Whitter to crack the rotation. His role was most likely going to be a special teams role.
There are still likely more transfers to come from Oklahoma as they try to get under the scholarship limit. They may even add some players too. So, don’t be surprised when you see more guys decide to enter the portal this week or next week after the Spring game.
