According to overthecap.com, the 2020 Collective Bargaining Agreement between NFL Owners and the NFL Players Association mandates that the fifth-year option fully guarantees the player’s salary – and the player’s fourth-year salary. The fifth-year salary is calculated based on the average of the top 3-to-25 highest-paid players at their respective positions over the past five seasons, playing time or Pro Bowls made.
Lawrence’s fifth-year option reportedly is $25.7 million, with Etienne’s reportedly $6.7 million.
Teams still can extend the contracts for players under the fifth-year option.
