Colts sign 7 undrafted free agents


Indianapolis – The Indianapolis Colts today signed five of their draft picks from the 2024 NFL Draft, including defensive end Laiatu Latu, linebacker Jaylon Carlies, cornerback Jaylin Simpson, cornerback Micah Abraham and defensive tackle Jonah Laulu.

The Colts also signed seven undrafted free agents, including quarterback/wide receiver Jason Bean, running back Trent Pennix, kicker Spencer Shrader, quarterback Kedon Slovis, guard Dalton Tucker, wide receiver Xavier White and linebacker Craig Young.

Bean, 6-2, 196 pounds, played in 51 career games (30 starts) at Kansas (2021-23) and North Texas (2018-20) and completed 414-of-699 passes for 5,969 yards with 55 touchdowns and 26 interceptions. He also compiled 251 carries for 1,344 yards (5.4 avg.) and 14 touchdowns. In 2023, Bean saw action in 12 games (10 starts) and completed 124-of-199 passes for 2,130 yards with 18 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also registered 47 carries for 280 yards (6.0 avg.) and three touchdowns.

Pennix, 6-2, 234 pounds, played in 54 career games (15 starts) at North Carolina State (2018-23) at tight end and running back. He compiled 55 receptions for 712 yards (12.9 avg.) and 11 touchdowns. Pennix also registered 41 carries for 240 yards (5.9 avg.) and one touchdown. In 2023, he appeared in 12 games (eight starts) and finished with 15 receptions for 190 yards (12.7 avg.) and three touchdowns. Pennix also tallied two carries for 67 yards (33.5 avg.) and one touchdown. His last name is pronounced penn-ICKS.

Shrader, 6-2, 201 pounds, appeared in 57 career games at Notre Dame (2023) and USF (2019-22) and converted 43-of-63 field goals and 156-of-158 extra points for 285 points. In 2023, he played in all 13 games and made 15-of-22 field goals and 61-of-62 extra points for 106 points. Shrader was a Lou Groza Award Semifinalist in 2021. He was born in Indianapolis. His last name is pronounced Sh-RAID-err.
