The 2024 college football season is still a touch over three months away, but the win totals for each team have been bubbling out. The Iowa Hawkeyes are coming off a 10-win season in 2023 and see their line set at a curious number.
FanDuel has set the Iowa Hawkeyes’ 2024 win total at 7.5 wins. They do have slightly lower odds for those going with more than 7.5 wins with -132 odds while those taking the under will get a bit better value at +108 odds.
This line is curious, to say the least. Excluding the COVID-shortened 2020 season, going under 7.5 wins would be Iowa’s lowest win total since they went 7-6 in 2014. Since 2014, Iowa has hit eight wins three times, nine wins once, and gotten to 10 wins three times.
The Hawkeyes find themselves bouncing around the fringe of most top 25 rankings before the season begins which makes this total a bit intriguing. Add that with the fact that Iowa draws just two teams ranked in Joel Klatt’s most recent top 25 rankings, No. 2 Ohio State and No. 22 Nebraska, and the path to more than 7.5 wins seems attainable.
Iowa also gets the advantageous scheduling of seven home games this year compared to just five road trips. The Hawkeyes geting to play inside Kinnick Stadium more often than not is a factor that can’t be overlooked when viewing this win total.
Iowa’s 2024 schedule breaks down like this. Home games against Illinois State on Aug. 31, Iowa State on Sept. 7, Troy on Sept. 14, Washington on Oct. 12, Northwestern on Oct. 26, Wisconsin on Nov. 2 and Nebraska on Nov. 29.
Iowa will make road trips to Minnesota on Sept. 21, Ohio State on Oct. 5, Michigan State on Oct. 19, UCLA on Nov. 9 and Maryland on Nov. 23.
