Iowa football earns commit from 2025 S Drew MacPherson

The Iowa Hawkeyes added another defensive puzzle piece of the future, picking up a commitment from 2025 prospect Drew MacPherson.

The 6-foot-2, 195 pound product of Loyola Academy in Wilmette, Ill., received an offer from Iowa on May 5 and didn’t wait long to pull the trigger on his first power-four opportunity. MacPherson chose the Hawkeyes over offers from Miami (Ohio), Akron, Army, Ball State, Bucknell, Eastern Illinois, Illinois State, Kent State, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Toledo and Western Michigan.

MacPherson is regarded as a three-star safety by 247Sports. 247Sports ranks MacPherson as the No. 96 safety and as the No. 36 player from Illinois in the 2025 class.

The Illinois native has demonstrated the ability to play all over in high school. Iowa likes MacPherson as a safety at the next level.

“Coach Wallace said he loved my style of play, he said he loved my dedication and love for the game. He made sure it was a special moment by having my parents join me on the call. He told me they were offering as a safety. I look forward to playing whatever they want me to. Whatever position it is I just love football,” MacPherson said recently to 247Sports after receiving his offer from the Hawkeyes.

After choosing Iowa, MacPherson shared why the Hawkeyes are such a good fit for him.

“This was the perfect choice for me because Iowa football reflects hard work, perseverance and grit. Playing football at the highest level has always been a dream for me and it doesn’t get bigger than the Big Ten. I love the coaching staff and the atmosphere Iowa creates. Really excited to get to work as a Hawkeye but first I have to finish it out with my teammates and get another state championship,” MacPherson said.
