Cal Athletic Communications Staff Wins Super 11 Award

Honor Given To Top Performing Media Relations Units In FBS

BERKELEY – California’s athletic communications staff was honored with the Super 11 Award on Wednesday, given annually to the best performing departments in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision.

The accolade was awarded based on the athletic communications staff’s efforts during the 2023 football season.

It marks the second time Cal’s staff has garnered the honor after claiming it the first time following the 2019 season.

“We once again honor some programs who have provided great assistance to writers for many years and have demonstrated a culture of excellence in what they do in their press box and in terms of accessibility to players and coaches,” FWAA executive director Steve Richardson said.

This year’s 11 winners “were deemed to have had excellent accessibility during the week of their games and after the game with a program’s players, coaches and coordinators/assistant coaches,” according to the Football Writers Association of America. Decorum and protocols in the press box and locker room were also considered.

FWAA members provided input during the season when press boxes were judged on how well they were run and maintained in terms of neutrality, pool reporters, noise level and accessibility to the press box that could affect a media member’s ability to do his or her job.
