The Eagles traded up in the fifth-round to select Clemson linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr., who will follow in his dad’s footsteps by wearing No. 54.
Here are five things to know about Trotter Jr., one of the team’s fifth-round picks (No. 155 overall):
1. Trotter Jr. was one of three Power 5 players to have 10+ sacks, 4+ interceptions, 3+ forced fumbles, and 2+ pick-sixes in a two-season span since 1996 (UCLA’s Akeem Ayers and UNC’s Julius Peppers).
“I’d probably say definitely the size and just how our body types are and how we play the game,” said Trotter Jr. when asked how his game compares to his dad. “He played the game where he’s more like trying to — up in it the gap, spiking gaps, running, getting downhill, and just blowing up lineman. In today’s game, I’m more of a run around, run sideline to sideline. I got to be able to play out in space. So, I feel like that’s the biggest part of our games that are different and the style of play that we have.”
2. According to Pro Football Focus, Trotter’s “average depth of tackle” occurred 2.42 yards away from the line of scrimmage, one of the lowest numbers in this class. This is a good representation of his abilities downhill, especially considering the number of plays he made in pursuit to offset it.
