OTAs to start without Lamb, eyes on Lance, who’s fastest Cowboy?

The offseason program cranks up a little hotter on Tuesday with the start of Cowboys OTAs. But there still won’t be any contact, still no mandatory attendance, and still no CeeDee Lamb. There will, however, be plenty of eyes following Trey Lance’s every move as the club uses this next opportunity to see what they have in the former first-rounder. Dak Prescott still has no contract, but his head coach had some strong words that put him in a class literally by himself when it comes to character.

Meanwhile, we look at which Cowboys player is really the speediest guy on the team, we get fired up with new assistant Jeff Zgonina (who’s already mad at everybody about everything), we see how Brandon Aubrey is warming up some new tricks for kickoffs, and we examine the Cowboys’ newfound O-line depth that comes at just the right moment. We’ll also go back in time twice: once to 2018 to look at the eerie similarities to the 2024 schedule, and then to 1993 for what happened the one time the NFL gave each team two bye weeks. All that, plus why the Cowboys will have a tough time repeating as division champs, ranking the watchability of this year’s season opener, and digging into why Emmitt Smith says he’s disgusted with his college alma mater. Here’s the News and Notes.

He’ll continue to train on his own as he awaits an extension.

Although the team and Prescott don’t have a contractual commitment to one another past the 2024 season, there should be no doubt about how his head coach feels about Prescott’s leadership and off-the-field character. Mike McCarthy put it above what he saw from Aaron Rodgers, Brett Favre, and even Joe Montana.
