With all the praise that I heaped on new Colorado football wide receiver Will Sheppard and returning weapons such as Travis Hunter, Omarion Miller and Jimmy Horn Jr., you’d think the Buffs would be set at the WR position. As the great Lee Corso would say, “Not so fast, my friend.”

Former Florida Atlantic Owl LaJohntay Wester followed Sheppard’s December commitment with a January transfer pledge, giving the Buffaloes another dangerous outside threat and a wide receiver room among the nation’s best. On top of all that, Wester also brings a punt return threat that will have special team coaches game planning around keeping the ball out of his hands.

Wester, whose brother Jaylen is a linebacker who also transferred from FAU to Colorado, has one year of college eligibility remaining.

According to 247Sports, Wester was not rated coming out of high school in the 2020 recruiting class. However, he played his way into being a high three-star transfer during this offseason cycle.

When you look at his stats at FAU, you can see why he’s more well thought of now than in high school. Wester caught everything thrown his way during his four years in Boca Raton, hauling in 252 passes for 2,703 yards and 21 touchdowns. In 2023, Wester cracked the 1,000-yard mark, catching 108 passes for 1,168 yards and eight touchdowns.

Wester is also a threat in the return game, He has returned 57 career punts for 632 yards (11.1 yards per return) and one touchdown while recording 14 kick returns for 290 yards (20.7 yards per return)….
