STANFORD, Calif. — The Stanford defense is adding depth on the defensive line with the addition of Clay Patterson, who joins the Cardinal after spending five years at Yale.
Sitting second in the Yale record books for career sacks with 22.5, Patterson was an All-Ivy League First Team selection in 2023 for the second time in his career. He burst onto the national scene in 2021 as a Third Team All-America (AP) selection, pacing the Ivy League in sacks with 11.5. Across four seasons of football, he compiled 111 tackles, including 30.5 tackles for loss, a fumble recovery, and an interception.
A standout on the field and in the classroom, Patterson has earned recognition from the College Sports Communicators (CSC) and the NFF Hampshire Honor Society for being a notable scholar-athlete.
Patterson is a Frisco, Texas native who graduated from Frisco Reedy High School as a unanimous First Team All-Region defensive end. He also qualified for State in powerlifting while twice being named to the First All-State Academic team.
