Quarterbacks are always the early headliners in every draft class. Even if they’re not destined for top-10 overall status, the quarterbacks get the preseason focus and attention amongst fans and draftniks.
Looking at the 2025 draft class, that holds true. Signal-callers like Shedeur Sanders, Carson Beck, Quinn Ewers, Cam Ward and others are already heavily scrutinized and analyzed before they even suit up for the 2024 college season. But in looking ahead to the 2025 NFL Draft, there’s another factor that could impact the QBs in the class:
Demand.
In short, there might not be much desire for a first-round quarterback for most NFL teams, and it’s got nothing to do with the talent pool that might be available in 2025. There simply aren’t that many situations where a team will be looking for a first-round quarterback. Based on recent drafts, contract extensions and other factors, most teams should have no real interest in selecting a premium quarterback prospect.
Things change, of course. Injuries happen, as do surprise retirements or unexpected regime changes. As the Falcons proved in this year’s draft, there’s no accounting for cap mismanagement or overriding thirst for a specific player — even in the face of common sense and football economics.
Here’s an early temperature check on the expected demand for a first-round quarterback for each of the 32 NFL teams in the 2025 NFL Draft.
