Matthew Judon is in the final year of his contract with the New England Patriots, and fans are worried the four-time Pro Bowler could be on his way out at the end of the season.
On Wednesday, one fan made the case on social media that the Patriots should pay the veteran pass-rusher what he wants. Judon is one of the team’s best players, and when considering all of the money that has been thrown around to in-house talent, it would make sense that the team would approach him with a lucrative deal.
But there has been no traction on a new deal so far.
When responding to the fan on social media, Judon’s comments added even more doubt of an extension being imminent.
“Ion think that’s about to happen,” Judon posted.
Judon turns 32 years old in August, and he’s coming off of a season-ending biceps injury. The Patriots aren’t a playoff contender. They’re clearly focused on younger talent with a more long-term vision of what they want the team to be.
Judon might not fit into that mold.
There’s also the possibility that the Patriots want to allow the season to play out, see where they are as a team and possibly come back to the table in the offseason. Or, maybe they really are trying to get a deal done behind the scenes, but nothing has stuck yet.
Judon has become a fan-favorite in New England over the years, and his comment on social media caused a stir. Here’s what fans were saying about his post:
