For two seasons now, the Seattle Seahawks have finished with identical 9-8 records. Oddly enough, both seasons were near mirror images of one another. Seattle raced to a 6-3 start, lost five of their next seven games, and found themselves in Week 18 needing a win over a division rival as well as the Green Bay Packers losing a home game to make the playoffs.
Still, both years were winnning seasons. However, that does not seem to impress the oddsmakers at FOX Sports. Currently, they have the Seahawks’ over/under win total set at 7.5 games for the 2024 season.
In the article, FOX Sports has two interesting nuggets of information regarding Seattle’s schedule:
- Based on their opponents’ total wins last year, the Seahawks, on paper, have the 24th strongest schedule
- However, based on FOX Sport’s win projection for their opponents in 2024, the Seahawks have the ninth most difficult
It won’t be an easy road for Seattle, regardless. Not only do they have to face the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams twice next year (both teams were a perfect 4-0 against Seattle in 2023) but they will also have to face the Bills, Dolphins and Lions – all finished with at least 11 wins.
Still, if past is prologue, the Seahawks have constantly proven they are better than the national media suggests. By no means am I a betting guru, but picking the over on 7.5 wins feels like the smart play. Seattle went 9-8 with one of the worst defenses in the NFL. If they can shore up the unit to being even league average, as well as find a way to get the offense humming more consistently, this team could absolutely be a playoff contender.
