Success in the NFL requires more than simply having a good quarterback, but there’s no doubt it’s easier to win when you have the game’s most important position solidified. The Atlanta Falcons learned this the hard way after trading Matt Ryan away in 2022.
Despite fielding a playoff-caliber roster in 2023, the team’s quarterback woes were too much to overcome. Falcons head coach Raheem Morris came in with a clear plan to revamp the QB room, signing veteran Kirk Cousins and drafting Michael Penix Jr. Cousins’ four-year, $180 million contract essentially guarantees he will start in 2024.
