Indianapolis Colts tight end Kylen Granson (83) practices receiving before facing the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2023, in Indianapolis.
With the return of Jelani Woods offering some big play ability at the tight end position for the Colts, I did originally project him to be TE1 following minicamp. In fact, Woods may end up leading the team in receptions and yards at the tight end position. However, looking ahead to just Week 1, Granson feels like the safer selection at this time. Woods missed all of the 2023 season due to injury, while Granson is able to impact both the running and passing games.
With that said, the Colts utilized a heavy-dose of 12 personnel last season, which has two tight ends on the field. So I would anticipate Woods seeing opportunities next to Granson in those instances or during more obvious passing situations. Of all the position groups, I’m guessing that we are going to see a few of the Colts’ tight ends getting regular playing time.
