Patriots 53-man roster predictions ahead of 2024 training camp

The New England Patriots are set to kick-start training camp on Wednesday, which means coach Jerod Mayo is only a day away from beginning the grueling task of cutting the roster down to 53 players.

Over the next few weeks, players will battle it out to earn a spot on the roster. The Patriots defense was a top-10 unit last season, and they will be returning many of the same players in 2024. Most of the question marks for New England are on the offensive side of the ball.

Will they carry an extra receiver to make up for their lackluster skilled positions? What will the final offensive line combination look like? How good is rookie No. 3 draft pick Drake Maye?

I recently projected 35 locks to make the final roster for the Patriots. This time, we’re kicking things up a notch and predicting the entire 53-man roster at the end of training camp.

Jacoby Brissett is the Patriots’ bridge option at quarterback, but he’s also a legitimate starter who gives the team a better chance to win than they had with Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe last season. There’s a good chance he’s the starter in Week 1.

Drake Maye is the future in New England, even if he doesn’t land the starting job at quarterback right away. The team gave up a lot to get him in the 2024 NFL draft because they truly believe he’s capable of helping them turn the franchise around.

Bailey Zappe gets edged out by rookie Joe Milton III in these 53-man roster projections. Make no mistake, Milton has plenty of work to do in preparing to play quarterback at the next level, but his potential is too high to pass up for another year of Zappe under center.
