Contract talks between Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins endured for almost all of the 2024 offseason, but finally reached a conclusion Friday with a four-year, $212.4 million agreement.
Still just 26 and fresh off a season when he led the NFL in passing yards, it’s a contract that keeps Tagovailoa in Miami for at least a few more years. But is it an appropriate price tag for a quarterback who has yet to notch a postseason victory through four seasons?
Social media had mixed opinions on the contract when the news broke Friday, although it was unanimously celebrated by Tagovailoa’s Dolphins teammates. Here’s a sample of the reactions:
Tua Tagovailoa’s story is 1 for the movies. Overcame career-threatening college hip injury, early NFL struggles & multiple scary concussions to become a MVP candidate & 1 of NFL’s highest paid QBs.
Now sets family up for generational wealth & many years chasing a title in Miami.
“I think it’s a mistake. I’ve graded Mike McDaniel on a curve. He now, seemingly, has signed off on Tua being a force multiplier. The curve has been removed. There’s a ceiling on their team with him as the QB.” — @getnickwrightpic.twitter.com/a5AgmdwOBD
