NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt punter Jesse Mirco has been named to the watch list for the Ray Guy Award. The Augusta Sports Council, which presents the award annually to the nation’s top punter, announced the list Friday.
Mirco is in his debut season with the Commodores after spending his first three years at Ohio State. He holds a career punting average of 44.0 yards, good for fourth all-time at OSU. He has pinned opponents inside their own 20-yard line on 55 of his 129 career punts, adding 31 punts over 50 yards and just eight touchbacks. In his final game for the Buckeyes, he punted a career-high eight times in the Cotton Bowl against Missouri, averaging 48.3 yards per punt.
As a sophomore, Mirco ranked third in the Big Ten and 12th nationally in punting average (45.4 yards per punt) and was a semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award. That year’s punting average was the sixth-best single-season mark in Ohio State history.
The two-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete, two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar majored in sport industry at Ohio State.
A native of Fremantle, Western Australia, Mirco was a part of the same ProKick Australia program that produced Vandy All-American punter Matthew Hayball. He was the No. 4 punter in the 2021 signing class.
Mirco and the Commodores open the 2024 season on Aug. 31 when Virginia Tech visits FirstBank Stadium (11 a.m. on ESPN). Ticket information is available here.
