Former Denver Broncos linebacker Randy Gradishar was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio on Saturday.
Gradishar, 72, played linebacker for the Broncos from 1974-1983, helping the team reach their first Super Bowl in 1977. A seven-time Pro Bowler and five-time All-Pro, Gradishar won the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year award in 1978 season and also got votes for DPOY in 1977, 1979 and 1983.
The Broncos credit Gradishar with 2,049 career tackles, 20 interceptions, 19.5 sacks and 13 fumble recoveries in 145 career games.
Gradishar is the first member of the team’s famous “Orange Crush” defense to reach the Hall of Fame. He hopes he won’t be the last.
“I’m just glad that is finally happening whether it was me or someone else because I think we all know that the ‘Orange Crush’ has not been recognized,” Gradishar said last week.
“Finally, the ‘Orange Crush’ is being recognized and I hope through my induction that other guys here in the near future — their names will be coming up and they will be able to have the opportunity to possibly be nominated and come in as a part of that ‘Orange Crush’ defense.”
Gradishar becomes the 15th former Broncos player to reach Canton.
