In an unprecedented move, six quarterbacks were selected in the first 12 picks of the 2024 NFL draft. Five of them were drafted to start this season and carry their teams from the jump. Here is how we rank those six rookies based on how much pressure is on them this season.
6 – Michael Penix Jr., Atlanta Falcons – Penix to the Falcons was a huge surprise but he gets to sit and learn from Kirk Cousins for at least this season and not have to worry about playing unless there is an injury.
5 – Bo Nix, Denver Broncos – Nix is having a strong training camp but we put him at five because the Broncos aren’t a great team and expectations aren’t for him to turn the team around in a single season.
4 – Drake Maye, New England Patriots – Despite being the sharpest rookie we’ve seen in training camp so far, we stick him in the middle because this is another team still rebuilding and his supporting cast isn’t as strong as the top three.
3 – J.J. McCarthy, Minnesota Vikings – The pressure is on McCarthy because he is following the immortal Kirk Cousins and has maybe the best wide receiver in the NFL in Justin Jefferson to throw to.
2 – Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders – In terms of talent, Jayden doesn’t have the best group around him but the team overall has plenty of talent to contend for the playoffs and Daniels is drawing rave reviews for how great he’s played.
1 – Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears – Top pick, top offense, all the expectations. That’s where Caleb Williams is with the Bears. He seems like nothing fazes him but make no mistake, if he doesn’t play well the critics will come out in droves.
