Irvine, Calif. – Sunday was the third consecutive practice that linebacker Demario Davis has missed, but Coach Dennis Allen said the absence of the five-time All-Pro is more precautionary than necessary.
“Guys like Demario, I’m not overly concerned,” Allen said. “Demario’s situation is probably a lot more precautionary on our part, being that we are in training camp. Knowing Demario, if we were to get ready for a regular season game, I don’t think that we’d be missing him out here (at practice). Part of that’s us. We’ve got to judge that based on who the player is.
“A young player that’s dealing with some soft tissue discomfort or discomfort issue, those guys really can’t afford to miss a lot of time. A guy like Demario has proven time and time again that he can go out and function at a high level, and he has functioned at a high level a lot of times with things like he has right now.”
Meanwhile, linebacker Pete Werner (shoulder), defensive end Payton Turner (toe) and defensive tackle Nathan Shepherd (toe) missed practice Sunday. Cornerback Paulson Adebo (groin) gave it a go but couldn’t fully participate, while safety Tyrann Mathieu and quarterback Taysom Hill both had vet days and didn’t participate in team drills.
