Titans’ Treylon Burks to ‘benefit most’ from DeAndre Hopkins injury

Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan addressed the media before the team practiced Saturday morning. Among the topics discussed, Callahan confirmed that wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins will be out for several weeks with a knee injury.

The good news, though? Callahan indicated the injury will not require surgery, so it really comes down to a waiting game.

If Hopkins misses minimal time, he could return in time for the Titans’ season-opener against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field. Should he miss extended time, Hopkins could potentially miss the first game or two of the regular season.

However, the Titans view this as a chance for others to step up, namely third-year wide receiver Treylon Burks.

“It’s a chance for guys to get more opportunities and you get to see what they’re going to make of them,” Callahan said, via The Tennessean. “Treylon’s probably the one that benefits the most at that position. Burks’ first two seasons in Nashville have been a disappointment after being taken No. 18 overall in the 2022 NFL draft, with the expectation of replacing star wide receiver A.J. Brown.

Injuries and conditioning issues have slowed the 24-year-old. After a 33-catch, 444-yard rookie campaign, Burks’ production was nearly cut in half last season.

As such, the Titans bolstered the wide receiver position with free-agent signings Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd, pushing Burks to the bottom of the depth chart.

Recognizing the importance of the upcoming season, the Arkansas product approached the offseason with renewed vigor. Burks got himself into shape, and he is now looking at an expanded role but probably not in the way that he had hoped.

“Man, I’ll just be honest. It sucks because I look up to Hop a lot,” Burks said, via ESPN’s Turron Davenport. “But he just told me to just do what I do, go out there and just take care of business. That’s what I’ve been doing before the injury even happened, just going out there and having fun. I’m…
