The Carolina Panthers have decided not to play quarterback Bryce Young in the team’s preseason opener against the New England Patriots on Thursday night.
Young, who was the first overall pick of the 2023 NFL draft, is coming off a rookie season that saw him record 2,877 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He struggled in his first year at quarterback on a Panthers team looking to rebuild.
The quarterback is entering the 2024 season hoping to help the Panthers achieve their first winning season since 2017.
This is certainly a contrast in comparison to how the Patriots will handle their quarterback situation in the preseason opener.
Coach Jerod Mayo indicated that every healthy player will have an opportunity to play for New England in this game.
That includes Jacoby Brissett, Joe Milton III, Bailey Zappe and rookie No. 3 overall draft pick Drake Maye.
The Patriots and Panthers last met in 2022 preseason action in a game where New England came away with a 20-10 victory.
