Stats: Three-of-four on field goal attempts with a long of 47 yards; one-of-one on extra point attempts
Little’s only missed field goal attempt in his Jaguars debut was from 62 yards away off the right hash. He packed enough power in the kick to have connected from at least 65 yards, but it hooked wide left.
One could argue Little netted Jacksonville two points in the waning seconds of the first half despite his time-expiring miss, however. He placed a kickoff roughly one yard into the end zone, with backspin, leading it to bounce out. Under the NFL’s new kickoff rules and after further inspection by referees, the ball was deemed live.
Kansas City returner Mecole Hardman rushed to grab the ball and take a knee in the end zone, but he touched it around the one-yard line before obtaining possession. The play was ruled a safety, giving Jacksonville a 20-10 lead.
“You can see, he’s not a big guy, but he’s got a really strong and powerful leg,” Pederson described Little.
“I went into this game thinking I wanted to get him some opportunities to kick under this type of pressure, this kind of stage. He performed extremely well. I mean, he was amped up now to start the game. He saw those kickoffs go through the end zone, and he was excited, which rightfully so. He’ll learn from it. But he had a good night.”
